English Waltz
 
[englisch, 'ɪȖglɪʃwɔ:ls], zu den Standardtänzen gehörender langsamer Walzer, der sich nach 1910 in England herausbildete, später zum Modetanz wurde und den nordamerikanischen Boston verdrängte. Von diesem unterscheidet er sich durch stärkeres Hervorheben der unbetonten zweiten und dritten Taktzeit und durch einfachere Schrittfolgen. Der entscheidende Anstoß für das Entstehen dieses Tanzes liegt in politischen Ereignissen begründet, da es dem Nationalgefühl der Engländer widersprach, vor und während des ersten Weltkrieges den Wiener Walzer als deutsch-österreichisches Kulturprodukt zu tanzen. So ist der English Waltz letztlich eine Synthese aus Wiener Walzer und Boston.
